Spinning Around Kylietown
Editorial ReviewEditorial Review
If you remember Kylie as the chick in overalls, then you'll know she's had a lot of outfits since her Neighbours days. It seems like the moment she gave up tinkling with car engines, she's been speeding down the pop princess super-highway in a cloud of never-ending costume changes.
But what happens to all those gorgeous gowns when she re-emerges, chameleon-like, into the next look? Kylie, being a Melbourne girl, wanted to donate her costumes to her home town. So her fabulous frocks are now sitting in huge vaults under the Melbourne Arts Centre. The collection has done the rounds over the last few years, stopping off in places like the National Portrait Exhibition in Canberra, the Queensland Performing Arts Centre and the Sydney Powerhouse Museum. These days security is tight down in the Melbourne vaults and the collection can only be seen by appointment. But you can peek at the Art Centre's pop-tastic gowns at the online Kylie Costume Collection.
If you need a more tangible way to remember Kylie, get a calendar - there are lots to choose from, and it's a nice cheerful sort of a way to remember your doctor's appointment. Some even have peel-off stickers, which you could stick - well, anywhere. But it doesn't stop there. Visit the Kylie official site and you'll find T-shirts, candles, key-rings and - my favourite - creamy, smooth linen from the 'Kylie at Home' collection. Just perfect for wannabe princesses to rest their sleepy heads on.
For some of us, having a pouting pic of Kylie hanging above our Kylie-draped beds is not enough (and really, why stop there?) Why not have a day out with Kylie and go on our Showgirl tour?
And what about those hotpants from the Spinning Around video? Yes, they're in the vaults, too. Apparently they were bought for 50p at a flea market. Just goes to show that even princesses keep their eyes out for a bargain.
