In far off lands, a monsoon is a wind which lasts for several months, bringing with it torrential rainfall. Many worship the monsoon as a force which cleanses the land and brings many days of free clothes washing. Well, Darwin now has its own force to worship, minus the clothes washing: a bar by day and club by night, Monsoons offers a whole new take on sumptuous cuisine, mouth-watering cocktails and serious music. Each night of the week will see Darwin's pretty, young thangs swaying to the beats of a resident DJ or live band.
The main bar - filled with chairs, tables, booths, banquettes and comfy stools - looks out onto the generous outdoor courtyard, the sight of many a weekend's festivities and parties. Any excuse is an excuse to party here (toga party, anyone?), with the live music and DJs armed with top 40 hits, funk , soul and good ol', dirty rock'n'roll. If you aren't packing your dancing pants, you'd best go home and change.
The very generous cocktails - only $12.50 - include a selection of house-made delights. The Near Perfect is just that, with crushed watermelon, blueberries, pear vodka and Cointreau, it's a sanity stealer if there ever was one. Add to this over 20 tap beers and a further 18 by the bottle, and you have one very serious recipe for "C'mon, you don't need to go to work tomorrow!"
