Editorial Review
Although there may be Kitty O'Shea's pubs the world over, there's only one in Darwin. Yes, an Irish pub in Darwin. Thanks be to whatever god is listening these days. And let's say this for the record; it's a damn, fine pub. And that's not just for the ever-present pints of Guinness, nor the Irish (and English) backpackers looking for any excuse to get loud and take their kit off (the latter not guaranteed). No, it's for the steak and Guinness pie. The rest of the menu might leave a little to be desired (hey, it's Darwin. People come here for the weather and the casino, not the food), but you can at least have a cliched feed and a cliched drink.
Wooden banquette seating and appropriately coloured furniture ticks the required box for an Irish-themed interior. The wall hangings (neon Guinness signs) can get a little hard on the eyes, but this is balanced out by the presence of slightly dubious shamrocks. A few pints of Guinness or Kilkenny will keep you firmly lodged in your seat, enjoying the air con and watching the hours tick by. But, if you're want is to enjoy a little more of the outdoors, the blinding Darwin heat will wash away any fantasies of an Ireland sojourn.
