Editorial Review

Well, what can one expect from a venue named Throb? An outdoor courtyard with an ongoing garden party ("Another cucumber sandwich, Clyde?")? A Buddhist bar serving lassis and mocktails on their yoga mats? No, move your mind further south, below the belt, and you're on the right track. This appropriately named nightclub is the Alpha and the Omega of Darwin's gay clubbing scene AND definitely lives up to its namesake.

Although it may only be open two nights a week, Throb certainly packs seven nights worth of partying into those two. A rotating roster of the hottest local DJs share the decks each night, mixing house, deep house and, you guessed it, progressive house, to create a thumping atmosphere for you to get sweaty in (and take off your top!). Naturally, there are many chill-out areas for you to wind down in, although there's not a lot of ?winding down' in many parts of the club, judging by the actions of those present on the chairs and sofas.

The atmosphere is quite party-like, almost like a friend has invited you to theirs for a very noisy shindig, minus clothing. And for those in the mood for music but no dancing, there are pool tables for a little friendly competition, or drag shows for that added touch of gay authenticity. Truly, this is the only place you need go in Darwin for a gay ol' time.
