Editorial Review
James Morrison is widely regarded as Australia's finest jazz musician. He's performed with Dizzy Gillespie, was part of the Olympic Games opening ceremony, writes scores for countless productions and regularly tours both solo and in collaboration with Deni Hines. Basically, he's the Australian face of jazz.
He's also a true multi-instrumentalist. While he's best known for his trumpet playing, Morrison is just as proficient on the trombone, tuba, saxophone, piano and a bunch of other instruments we're not even familiar with. Euphonium anyone? The point is, he's ridiculously talented. Morrison's discography runs for pages and pages, and when he's not playing instruments he's helping invent them. Okay, not ‘inventing' as such, but he's helped Yamaha develop a number of signature trumpets. How many other people have done that?
Still, it's not all highbrow concerts and inventing stuff. Morrison played a duet with Craig McLachlan to mark the 500th episode of Neighbours in ‘89. He played the trumpet while McLachlan played the electric guitar. He'll be joined by rather more credible company in Darwin when he plays alongside his quartet.
