P!nk: Funhouse
Editorial ReviewEditorial Review
Release date: 25 October 2008 (Sony)P!nk rocks! Really, she does. She might be a pop sensation. But as far as pop stars go, P!nk is the rockiest of them all. She has opinions, she isn't afraid to share them and she doesn't shy away of doing things her own way (kissing chicks, dying her hair a myriad of colours, writing songs about how much she hates the "stupid girl epidemic" and singing an open letter to President Bush). All in all, P!nk is the kind of singer that girls should look up to - and they do, boy do they ever. All four of her albums have sold like Playstations and her shows sell out even faster.
Her fifth album Funhouse and its tour are no exception. Funhouse was released on the news that her marriage had broken down, and true to form P!nk hasn't shied away from facing the issues. The album starts out with, "I guess I just lost my husband/I don't know where he went" and goes on to, "I'm alright/I'm just fine/and you're a tool". P!nk tells it how she sees it and that's why we love her.
Despite the aggressiveness of the first single (So What) the rest of the album depicts the more sober side of a relationship break down. It still has the energy that we've come to expect, but the speed is slower; it's more intimate, a letter, a pouring of the soul. That's the thing about this artist: she lays it all out, she is personal and makes us feel like her feelings are our own.
Musically and production wise, Funhouse won't disappoint. P!nk works with the best of the best and it shows. Don't miss Please Don't Leave Me, (which is bound to be a future single) and Bad Influence (old P!nk style). But really, each track could ride on its own merits as a single. With the help of her legions of Aussie fans, they just might be.
