Editorial Review
Opened in 1997, Buzz Cafe quickly became a popular local institution. Compelling features include the great location overlooking the boats moored in Cullen Bay Marina, the best mango daiquiris in Darwin, striking decor and food to tempt all tastes. The concept for the cafe is the inspiration of owner John Bonnin, who designed many of the fixtures including unusual bathroom arrangements that have startled more than one first timer. These include one way mirrors in the men's cubicles, toilet seats imbedded with redback spiders and enormous lava sinks.Furnishings are teak and mahogany with signature pieces from local Darwin artists. Floor to ceiling glass walls and slide-away shuttered doors make full use of the waterfront location. The overall effect offers patrons a relaxed atmosphere that is a blend of Asian and modern tropical styles and artworks. The menu has something for everyone from gourmet fish and chips and lamb-shank pies, to salads and Asian dishes. Leave room for desserts such as the licorice parfait with lime syrups. A comprehensive wine list favours SA and WA wines and there is even a tempting selection of French champagnes.

David: If you are in Darwin for a short time, don't miss Buzz's bar. It's good food and atmosphere, but everyone mentions the toilets. All I will say is don't get stage fright! (04 July 2008)
