Editorial Review
Ghost Whisperer follows the journey of Melinda Gordon (Jennifer Love Hewitt), a young woman with the ability to communicate with spirits and a strong sense of obligation to deliver their messages to the people they've left behind.
When Sydney Drake (Austin Highsmith), the daughter of an influential family, goes missing, the family approaches celebrity medium Casey Edgars (Orlando Jones) to help find her. Melinda is suspicious of Edgars's motives and becomes uneasy when she realises he can't see a ghost following him.
Melinda approaches the Drake family to offer her help and slowly comes to realise the spirit attached to Edgars has an intimate connection to the disappearance of Sydney. Melinda must work with Edgars to solve the mystery, and in doing so, heal rifts within the Drake family.
When a program revolves around the same basic concept week after week, it would be easy to assume the plot could wear a little thin - particularly for shows of this ilk which require a degree of imagination. However, this episode proves engaging as it puts an interesting spin on the issue of scepticism. Also, there are several strong performances from the supporting cast, particularly Jones as the wannabe psychic and The West Wing's Elisabeth Moss as Sydney's younger sister, Nikki.
Ghost Whisperer returns to the Seven Network on Thursday, July 24, at 7:30pm.
